Maria Island

On 23 November academic staff and research higher degree candidates from the Schools of English, Journalism and European Languages; and History and Classics, travelled to Maria Island for a work-in-progress day. Representatives from Parks and Wildlife, the Heritage Council, Port Arthur Historic Site and the Convict Listing Team joined the delegates from the University of Tasmania. The day was an opportunity for post-graduate students and staff to share their current research that focused on Colonial Tasmania, and Post Colonial literary readings of texts. Following lunch there Cassandra Pybus chaired a round table on Cultural Heritage Futures, with a particular focus on Maria Island. This discussion opened up new possibilities for the Cultural Environments and Heritage (CEH) Honours programme.
